World Mental Health Day will be observed on Saturday, Oct. 10, to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilize efforts in support of mental health. “World Mental Health Day is an opportunity for the world to come together and begin redressing the historic neglect of mental health,” according to Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization.

Mental health is the overall wellness of how you think, regulate your feelings and behave. Sometimes the difference between normal mental health and mental disorders is clear, but often the distinction isn't so obvious.

Mental illness refers to a wide range of mental health conditions — disorders that affect your mood, thinking and behavior.

Unfortunately, negative attitudes and beliefs toward people who have a mental health condition are common. Others' judgments almost always stem from a lack of understanding rather than information based on facts.
